The Vandalia, Illinois Lake is a 660 acre lake with 12 miles of shoreline located four miles northwest of Vandalia on Illinois Route 185 with an entrance to the marina, boat dock, campground and beach. The marina has boaters licenses available plus, gasoline, snacks, fishing supplies and bait. Both outboard and inboard motors are limited to 225 horsepower at the motor. No inboard or outboard motor may be a V8. All existing boats and motors upon Lake Vandalia together all boats and motors registered and/or situated upon Lake Vandalia hereinafter shall be registered as to motor and boat serial number and model number. not more than 20 competition ski boats shall be licensed upon Lake Vandalia. No hydro-plane type boat is permitted on Lake Vandalia. The Vandalia Lake features fantastic fishing opportunities. The Vandalia Sport Fishing and Conservation Club works to stock the lake with large mouth bass, channel catfish and bluegill. The club holds several fishing tournaments each year. A handicapped accessible pier is also located near the marina. Vandalia Lake provides high quality camping facilities for overnight camping. The campground includes sites with electric outlets, modern shower with flush toilets, and a dump station for recreational vehicles. Campgrounds are open from Memorial weekend through last weekend in September. Swimming is also available at Jaycees Beach which features a large sloping sand beach, plus a modern beach house and showers. Lifeguards are on duty. There are three large pavilions, also shaded tables throughout the camping area. Playground equipment is located near the Vandalia Lions Pavilion and also at Jaycee Beach.
